Chapter 15
1 And immediately, early in the morning, the chief priests, having made a council with the elders and scribes and the whole Sanhedrin, having bound Jesus, carried him away and handed him over to Pilate. 2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" He answered him, "You say so." 3 The high priests were accusing him of many things. 4 But Pilate asked him again, saying, "Do you not answer anything? See how many things they accuse you of." 5 But Jesus gave no further answer, so that Pilate marveled. 6 But at the festival he used to release one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. 7 There had been one called Barabbas who was bound with the insurrectionists, those who had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 The crowd came up and began to ask him to do as he usually did for them. 9 But Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to release the king of the Jews to you?" 10 For he knew that the chief priests had handed him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead. 12 Pilate answered them again, "What then do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?" 13 They cried out again, "Crucify him!" 14 But Pilate said to them, "What evil has he done?" But they cried out all the more, "Crucify him!" 15 But Pilate, wishing to do what was sufficient for the crowd, released Barabbas to them and handed over Jesus, having scourged him, in order that he might be crucified.
